When in Budapest, don’t forget to try Hungarian food as well! Here are our favourites that you should order!
Haveli
Although Andrássy út is crammed full of designer clothing shops and many local and chain restaurants, finding just that one perfect place to dine is still often difficult. Haveli fills that need with a breezy, comfortable Indian venue. It has become a favorite spot for Indian food lovers during its three years on-site and is perfect for families or groups.
Haveli serves some of the best Indian dishes in town, topped off by Lentil soup, the Vegetarian Kofta and the Madras Curry Chicken.
Indigo
Still among the most patronized Indian restaurants in Budapest, Indigo offers up a wide variety of dishes from different states of the Indian sub-continent. Authenticity is the byword here as perfectly-prepared foods are placed in front of loyal customers. Special attention should be given to the lamb, prawn and Punjabi dishes, which are rich in aroma and flavor.
Must-try offerings include: Dal kebab, Lamb rogan josh, Goan prawn curry and Mango kulfi. Indigo is also one of the few Budapest Indian restaurants serving a wide variety of vegetarian dishes.

In the mood for something else? How about some Italian food?
Maharaja City
In addition to some of the tastiest Indian food in Budapest, Maharaja City also offers specialities from Nepal, including: Pulao (a rice dish with vegetables or meat) and Momo (a vegetable- or chicken-filled noodle dish). This Jham family restaurant is a Budapest landmark, with ample portions and reasonable prices.
Pándzsáb Tandoori
The decor here is more like you would find on a side street in Delhi, but, then, this place is really about the food. For more than 10 years this small (only 10 tables) hidden gem on Pannónia utca, next to the Vígszinhaz, has drawn diners back again and again with its high-quality dishes. You’ll find Vegetable Samosa, Pakora with mint sauce, Chicken Tikka Masala, Korma, and other typical Indian specialties on the menu. And they also deliver!
Rajkot Palace
The newest entry into Budapest’s Indian Restaurant Sweepstakes is the Rajkot Palace, just off Váci utca next to Fat Mo’s Music Club. When you enter the first things you’ll notice are the vintage décor, sophisticated ambiance, perfect lighting and soothing music. The menu boasts authentic Mughlai and Awadhi delicacies, rich in spices and taste.
The core of their offerings is traditional cuisine from the many culinary regions of India, featuring the most celebrated elements of Indian cooking techniques, with appetizers and tasting menus that reflect Rajkot Palace’s modern interpretations. Must-try dishes include: Onion bhaji, Mulligatawny soup, Chicken multani kebab and Chingri malai curry.
The staff are knowledgeable and technically proficient, yet unobtrusive. The result is a vibrant and trendsetting scene, full of energy and sophistication. Rajkot Palace is a place of gathering, a place of celebration, a place for business and a place for pleasure. Rajkot Palace is indeed one of the high-end places in Budapest for Indian food.
Shalimar
This specialty restaurant, a part of the Budapest culinary scene for many years, has been named as the best curry restaurant in the city on several occasions. Located in the city’s Jewish Quarter, Shalimar offers fresh ingredients daily, and also boasts more vegetable dishes than in most other Indian restaurants. Patrons generally enjoy the okra salad and the tikka plate.
Taj Mahal
Here you will find the best of Mughlai and Awadhi flavors in one of Budapest’s most popular Indian restaurants. The venue boasts elegant décor with Asian art and wood carvings to ensure it is the best atmosphere in which to satiate your desi-food-loving soul. Be sure and try the Tandoori chicken, Prawn biriyani and Chicken Tikka.
Waitresses wearing sari outfits while serving makes the ambiance all the more authentic and charming.
