International Coffee Day in Kazinczy utca

A family-friendly boutique hotel and restaurant at the foot of the Buda hills | Expat Press Hungary Magazine 2

At the end of September, International Coffee Day is celebrated in many countries all around the world; cafés and coffee shops in Europe and overseas invite people in with special offers for special coffee tastings and exciting coffee drinks.

This is the 5th year that representatives of the coffee profession in Hungary are joining forces, and creative bartenders are initiating guests into the tasteful world of coffee on Sunday, 2 October.

This year, the event has a new venue, Tesla Budapest in Kazinczy utca, where types of coffee from the best plantation areas are offered for only the price of two cups. On International Coffee Day, beginner and experienced coffee drinkers are welcome to explore the world from 11.00 am until 7.00 pm. Coffee filters, espresso machines, accessories and excellent quality coffees will be the highlights of exhibitors’ stalls, and they can all be purchased at the venue.

This year visitors can familiarise themselves with 7 micro roaster machines. The Hungarian producers include La Marzocco-42, Beyond Within, Black Sheep, Casino Mocca and Lucky Cap, the UK’s Alchemy will be here for the first time, which will be available in Hungary as Alchemy Coffee Hungary, and we will have Poland’s Karma, which already has a Hungarian distributor. Besides tasting coffee, alternative coffee making machines ideal for home use will be available to try out.

The Creative Brew Challenge will be held in the afternoon, organised by the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe – Hungary (SCAE Hungary). The challenge is not an official competition of the SCAE, but a local initiative that provides an excellent opportunity for creative bartenders to take part in informal professional challenges. During the day, a short presentation by the association will cover next year’s national bartender competition and the world championship to be held in Budapest.

The event will last into the evening, and the organisers have lined up programmes such as cup tasting, professional lectures (water use, compression, grinding), the micro roasting workshop of the UK’s Alchemy, a film entitled The Coffee Man, to be shown only at this event, and the exclusive Pantry in the Mouth (Spájz a szájban) coffee+spirit tasting.

Alongside the programmes, the HUF 1000 ticket will grant visitors unlimited coffee tasting. Alongside the stalls, Tesla Bar and the Panificio il Basilico food truck with an extravagant selection of street-bites will also be open.  The crème de la crème of bartenders and a bustling cosmopolitan atmosphere await visitors in one of the most popular party venues in Budapest, in the former transformer station and the common garden of the Electrotechnical Museum and Tesla Budapest.
