“Ne csak szurkolj, segíts! (Don’t just cheer, help!) is the name of the Ultrabalaton relay race organised by Hungarian Interchurch Aid. The team of ten runners led by Iain Lindsay, the UK’s Ambassador to Hungary, ran around the Hungarian lake last Saturday with a special mission: they wanted to raise HUF 200,000 to help fund summer camps for underprivileged, abused children.

Using the charity donations the aid organisation will enable children to attend camps who would otherwise have no chance of enjoying a summer holiday.

The Ambassador has been training hard with running legend Sarolta Monspart in recent weeks, and together with his volunteer co-runners they held a public training session yesterday on Margaret Island to draw attention to the charity event. The organisers revealed they wanted to contribute to the expenses of the summer camps with a tangible sum, therefore they set the amount of HUF 200,000 as their goal, almost half of which has already been raised. The charity running team hopes to collect the remainder before and on the day of the big run on Saturday.

By calling the donation line on 1353 you can donate HUF 250 per call, while on the jougyekert.hu website under Körbefutjuk a Balatont, a bántalmazott gyerekekért! (We’re running around the Balaton for abused children!) you can donate any amount you want.

Almost HUF 200,000 target has already been donated.
You can help too, just call the donation line on 1353!
