It’s hereeee! The spookiest month of the year has finally arrived!
Those who know me are also painfully aware of the fact that I am obsessed with Halloween! I can’t get enough of it! The colours, the spooks, the costumes, the tricks and the treats… it is my favourite holiday.
The western holiday that is Halloween has only recently started to ooze its way into the Hungarian consciousness, but me and my friends have been celebrating for many years now. Every year, the costumes get wilder, the fake blood bill gets higher and Halloween themed junk gets easier to be purchased. Yay for us!
My obsession
I have gotten to a level of obsession where Halloween is not only one evening, but an entire month! Frankly, if it were up to me, it would be all-year round. Except for my birthday… and Christmas. But I digress.
As an outlet for my obsession, I am going to entertain you, dear reader, with some fun facts and stories about the scariest of holidays.
The story behind
The story behindThe good thing about All Hallows’ Eve is that a lot of nations and cultures have their own version, but the essence of all of them boils down to this. At a certain time of year, the spiritual and material world are believed to be closer to one another than on other days. As such, people remember and/or celebrate their departed loved ones with all sorts of traditions. These traditions are woven together with sadness, fear, love, remembrance and a celebration of life. So, I ask you, what’s not to love?
While you shiver in anticipation of the first of several educational yet entertaining pieces Expat Press Hungary will be publishing over the course of October, I’ll get you started with a few recommendations that will get you into the Halloween spirit.

I am not one for horror movies, but even so, there are a bunch of films that can guarantee a nice, kid-friendly (and chicken such as myself) chills.
